Zoellick gets China's backing

China favors the appointment of Robert Zoellick to the top post at the World Bank. “Zoellick would help enable the World Bank to carry out its duties if he were to become the bank’s president,” Xinhua News Agency quoted a Chinese finance ministry official. “As an international figure, Mr. Zoellick has rich experience in international communication,” the spokesman added. The U.S. nominee, the lone candidate for the World Bank presidency, is due to get the nod of the 24-member board today. (Source: China Backs Zoellick For World Bank President/The Associated Press)
