Action on Dementia Sunderland was formed to provide support within the City of Sunderland to people who have dementia and their families, carers and friends. They also promote the interests of people who have dementia and those of their families, carers and friends.
Action on Dementia Sunderland has its own constitution based on democratic principles with local control and accountability.
They guarantee that all funds raised and donations received will be used to benefit people within the City of Sunderland.
Action on Dementia Sunderland was formed in January 2010 and the committee and volunteers include those who have many years of experience in caring for people who have dementia and who understand their needs and the needs of their families and friends.
Action on Dementia Sunderland aims to raise awareness of the issues and needs around dementia and to promote increased access to support
and advice services for individuals with dementia and their families.
• To provide information relating to dementia and services available for those directly affected by dementia and their families/carers.
• To actively raise funds in pursuit of the aim of the group.
• To foster close links with the local community and other organisations in the locality to achieve the aim of the group.
• To work in partnership with other local organisations and groups to further the aims of the group.
The current priority is to improve quality of life for those with dementia and their families and carers by enabling both to actively engage with people in the community, which reduces social isolation, through the Memory Cafés.
The Memory Cafés provide a very important addition to support services and enable a single point of contact where information and education can be distributed directly to where it is of most use.
