Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (AICS Havana)
Cuba is among the countries that have most recently been included among the geographical priorities of the Italian Cooperation, which has resumed activities on the island in the 2009 after the signing of the Joint Declaration which made it possible to reconnect with the relations that were interrupted in 2003.
In March 2011 a Declaration of Intent was signed in Havana which marked the beginning of a new phase in bilateral cooperation, which focuses particularly on three macro-areas: rural development and food security, protection of cultural heritage and governance of the territories.
The AICS office in Havana is also responsible for Colombia and has been active since 2017.
For Italy, Development Cooperation constitutes an integral and qualifying part of its foreign policy . The current institutional structure of Italian Cooperation is the result of a deep restructuring initiated with Law 125/2014, with which two new units were created attached to the MAECI (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation : the Italian Cooperation Agency for Development (AICS) and the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) .
Mission and Vision
The AICS headquarters in Havana values those elements of strength and typicality of the Italy System, which explicitly indicate the purpose of Italian Cooperation and which are based on the innovative principles of Law 125/2014. These are aimed at revitalizing mostly: the local autonomies and territorial alliances to promote and strengthen inter - process exchange and transfer of knowledge to support the decentralization process to promote development inclusive and sustainable local; the research, know-how and technological innovation as crucial instruments consolidate sustainable growth through appropriate development models ; a creative, inclusive and sustainable economy to take advantage of the capacities and potentialities granted by culture in general, as a source of growth and occupation. It is in the common interest to adopt a strategic, integrated and innovative approach that is the result of the integration of the positive experiences carried out by the Italian Cooperation , with the aim of overcoming the classic conception of the project as an effective response to the fragmentation and dispersion of aid. . For this reason, the initiatives are carried out in close coordination and coordinated in the various sectors of intervention to guarantee maximum effectiveness and complementarity .See more
