AFFA is a social justice organization achieving equality and acceptance for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. We’re lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender persons and straight allies uniting to eliminate prejudice based on sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.
For the past 18 years, AFFA has been the voice and face of the LGBT community in the Lowcountry. Last year, AFFA launched a billboard series highlighting discrimination which still exist for the LGBT community, illustrating that while LGBT people have marriage equality, they are still susceptible to being fired, evicted, harassed, or refused service because of their sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.
The campaign was a series of four consecutive billboards that follows the social media posts of a newly married lesbian woman, ending with the message "There's more to equality than marriage."
During the past 18 years, AFFA has displayed more than 20 billboards and produced a dozen TV, radio and internet ads, a thirty-minute documentary and many educational videos. AFFA's direct mailings have been read by hundreds of thousands of South Carolinians.
