Arms Trade Treaty Secretariat (ATT)
About

The Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) is an international treaty that regulates the international trade in conventional arms and seeks to prevent and eradicate illicit trade and diversion of conventional arms by establishing international standards governing arms transfers.

The Treaty came into force on 24 December 2014. At this stage the Treaty has a total of 110 States Parties and 31 States that have signed but not yet ratified the Treaty.

The ATT Secretariat was established in accordance with Article 18 of the Treaty to support and assist States Parties in the effective implementation of the ATT. The Secretariat is located in Geneva, Switzerland.

The ATT Secretariat is dedicated to supporting States in their implementation of the ATT and in ensuring international transfers of conventional arms are conducted responsibly and in accordance with the Treaty.

The ATT Secretariat manages the collection of information, including reports submitted by States Parties, their nominated points of contact, and their national control lists. The ATT Secretariat also supports the ATT process by helping to organise conferences of States Parties and intersessional work.

The ATT Secretariat also administers the Voluntary Trust Fund established by States Parties under Article 16(3) of the Treaty to assist states’ implementation of the Treaty. In addition, the Fourth Conference of States Parties entrusted the ATT Secretariat with the administration of the ATT Sponsorship Programme, established to facilitate the participation of State representives in ATT meetings.
