Association of Portuguese Language Universities (AULP)
The Association of Portuguese Language Universities (AULP) is an international NGO that promotes cooperation and exchange of information between Universities and Higher Institutes. We are more than 130 members from eight Portuguese-speaking countries - Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor - and Macau (Macao SAR). Our mission is to facilitate communication between members for the collective development of teaching and the Portuguese language in the world. We encourage research and exchange of students and teachers. We propose continuous reflection through the daily dissemination of news and the organization of conferences and events.
Founded on November 26, 1986, AULP promotes multilateral collaboration between universities in Portuguese-speaking countries and multiplies efforts to consolidate ties and promote joint actions among its members, so that the recognition of the importance and strength of this community of people who speak the Portuguese language and, above all, who do research and higher studies. One of the AULP's development priorities has been to strengthen the Association's relations with the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) of which it is an Advisory Observer, which has allowed it to intervene in some thematic areas and assume the role of scientific advisory whenever the CPLP requests it.
The main challenges facing AULP are related to the dynamization of the network of Portuguese-speaking universities in order to value different cultures, bring scientific dynamics closer together, multiply exchanges in the fields of teaching and scientific research, consolidate strategic partnerships and expand the role of the Portuguese language as a qualified animator of this community.
Within the scope of its activities, the Association of Portuguese Language Universities is responsible for a wide range of initiatives: Annual meetings; Bilateral thematic meetings; Editions; Fernão Mendes Pinto Award; International Journal in Portuguese Language (RILP); Minutes of Meetings; Editions that promote the Portuguese language and national cultures; Promotion of multilateral postgraduate courses; Consultative Observer of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).
The dispersion of its associates means that the AULP initiatives are also in line with this model. The Annual Meetings that it holds take on an itinerant character and the International Journal in Portuguese Language (RILP) gathers contributions from different latitudes, enriching the scientific debate and favoring the relationship between members of the community.See more
