Associazione Volontari Ospedalieri Fiumicino (Association of Hospital Volunteers - Avo Fiumicino)
They are a group of about 200 volunteers who serve in the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospitals of Palidoro and S. Marinella. The Ave Fiumicino was formally established in 2005 but is part of one of the largest Italian non-profit organizations: the AVO - Volunteer Hospital Association, founded in 1975 by Erminio Longhini, primary in the Sesto San Giovanni hospital in Milan and which today can count on over 27,000 volunteers throughout Italy, distributed in 215 local offices. Avo volunteers lend their help for the moral and psychological support of the patients and provide assistance for the needs of the most needy, also acting as a link with family members and promoting initiatives aimed at improving the conditions of hospitalization.
Their assistance is made of availability, affection and human support: they assist children, organize shows and entertainment in the hospital, workshops and activities for mothers. Their help is also practical: they support families in difficulty by offering them meal vouchers, food expenses and free transport. They always and constantly try to identify these difficulties and help those who come to them.See more
