Austrian Town Covenant (Österreichischer Städtebund)
About 65 percent of the population and 71 percent of jobs are in Austria's metropolitan areas. The Österreichische Städtebund is the local representative body representing a total of 257 cities and larger municipalities.
The club was founded on September 24, 1915 and today has virtually all municipalities with more than 10,000 inhabitants as members besides Vienna and the provincial capitals. The smallest member municipality has just under 1,000 inhabitants.
Membership is voluntary. In addition to the Austrian Association of Municipalities, which represents the smaller municipalities, the Österreichische Städtebund is a discussion partner for the federal and provincial government and is expressly mentioned in the Austrian Federal ConstitutionSee more
