North East Part of Bihar is known as Land of Floods. Each year flood comes and people migrate. Women and children especially the teen age girls of marginalized population have been the most sufferers of survivals.
Circumstance is concern to the year of 1987 when maximum population of Bihar got affected in the devastating flood. People had lost their earning and livelihood. Male had to migrate in search of bread leaving behind their females and children. It was also the phase of untouchability and social discrimination strongly exited at all levels. Violence against women of marginalized community had become the common phenomenon. Poor families who were not able to pay the debt were bounded to stay mute. People belonging to the creamy layer used to look down upon the marginalized population of the society. But they also on the other hand didn’t show any reluctance in harassing the females of the same community. There was no difference between the goat and female.
Mr. Arun Kumar had started to unite the families were sufferers of violence. Male members were also got informed on the threats of massive migration. Leisurely, a team was formed having the leadership of the same community who were not even seen as Human being. Later on, the team was known as Bhoomika Cultural team.
He used music as his basic strategy to connect such population with the mainstream of the society. He believed that music is one such method which sees no discrimination towards anybody. Bhoomika cultural team was involved in drawing the attention of the people on the one hand and on the other hand it also strived to create a favorable and sensitive environment for oppressed section girls and women. The team was trained by the experts of “National School of Drama”, New Delhi on the low cost media performance. The miracle of the music touched everybody so immensely that the people who were earlier looked down upon by the community now given high regards and respect in the society. People who were only considered as an object of hatred were now being given invitation. Gradually Bhoomika cultural team recognized making effort for the rights and dignity of the girls & women. Gently the team had become the voice of unheard.
In the year of 1995/96, the team registered as Bhoomika Vihar with broad aim and objective. Community based sustainable approach started with the marginalized population of the society is still being enduring till today. Numerous people, who were not even allowed to enter the main entrants of the home, are holding respectable position in the society at present. People who were involved in the struggle of the mainstreaming of the society earlier, still continues to be the active members working actively with the Bhoomika Vihar.See more
