Blue Shield of California Foundation aims to improve the lives of all Californians, particularly the underserved, by making health care accessible, effective, and affordable, and by ending domestic violence.
Blue Shield of California Foundation believes all Californians can be healthy and safe. So they support solutions to ensure the best possible care and services for the Californians most in need. Through their two program areas, Health Care and Coverage and Blue Shield Against Violence, they are advancing the health and safety for the most vulnerable Californians by:
-Supporting new solutions. They are always looking for the most promising practices, talent and tools to help everyone in California get what they need to be healthy and safe.
-Elevating the best ideas. As they advance toward health and safety for all Californians, their learning continually evolves and is informed by the innovative partners and leaders in the field. And as they learn, they elevate leading-edge solutions.
-Building the field. As policies, practices, and systems evolve, so must the leaders and organizations working together toward health and safety for the Californians most in need. Their shared goal demands they all work together at their best.
-Strengthening organizations – their own and their partners'. Because they believe accelerated solutions demand strong organizations with adaptive leadership, they strive for these qualities in their work and their engagements with partners. They work to always acknowledge and build on the strengths of their team, their allies and their communities. They believe cross-field collaboration brings better results for all.
Blue Shield of California Foundation is funded entirely by contributions from Blue Shield of California, a mission-based, not-for-profit health plan founded by physicians in 1939. They are a private foundation that shares the corporation's core mission of providing everyone access to quality health care. Foundation grantmaking is approved by a distinguished Board of Trustees.
