China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD, formerly China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation) was established in 1989. It is a non-governmental organization specializing in poverty alleviation in China. With the support from all sectors of the society, CFRD has accumulatively raised RMB 9.57 billion and benefited 17.8million poverty or disaster stricken people by the end of 2013. Now CFRD has become a philanthropic organization with the largest scale and greatest social impact in poverty reduction. There are more than one hundred kinds of programs in CFRD, such as New Great Wall — Financial Aid to College Students in Need, Schoolbags, School Dormitory, Maternal and Infant Healthcare, Microfinance, and International Development Projects. By devoting itself in the 4 fields of health improvement, education equality, rural development and humanitarian aid, CFRD is taking the initiative in addressing social problems together with donors, volunteers and all individuals with love. CFRD has won the extensive confirmation on its sound. CFRD has twice been rated as the top 5A foundation by Ministry of Civil Affairs.
CFRD started its international humanitarian aid in 2005 as China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA), and international community development operations in 2009 in Africa. Since 2005, CFPA had responded to Indonesia tsunamis, U.S Hurricane Katrina, the Pakistan earthquake, typhoon in Burma, Chile earthquake, Haiti earthquake, the earthquake and trunami in Japan, the Horn of Africa drought and other disasters. International development department (IDD) of CFPA was formed on December 1, 2009, which is a key step for CFPA towards its strategy of internationalization and it is also a symbol that CFPA’s effort to reduce international poverty will be carried out on a professional way. Up to 2013, CFPA has invested 71.99 million yuan for international aid projects in 12 countries and regions.
