Code for Science & Society ("CSS") is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization committed to improving access to data for the public good.   They are a small grant funded group of technologists and researchers working on open source technology systems that empower scientists, journalists and civic minded individuals to accelerate their work by more easily publishing and consuming high quality data.   They work at the intersection of technology with three areas: science, journalism and government. The goal is to help these areas make better use of technology to accomplish their goals and help create more openness, transparency and collaboration.   The main function is to build, promote and train these communities on data management, sharing and search tools they can use to make better use of data in their work and to benefit the public at large.
