Department of Agricultural Research (Lesotho)

Agricultural Research is the department that is whithin the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, mandated to generate, adapt and transfer agricultural technologies and scientific knowledge and to provide relevant services for both subsistence and commercial farmers and other stake holders for sustainable development of agriculture, while preserving the natural resource base in accordance with national agricultural development policies and strategies. Agricultural Research's mandate covers crops, livestock, natural resources, food and nutrition, seed development, agricultural engineering and socio-economic and extension. National Agricultural Research Organisation adequately resourced and capable of generating solutions to agricultural critical problems related to food security, poverty alleviation and efficiently generating usable and agro-technologies to support sustainable productive and profitable farming and overall agricultural development. National Agricultural Research Organisation committed to application of agricultural science in environmentally safe and economically viable agro-technologies to the farming community and agro-business through strong linkages with education,extension and industry. The Department of Agricultural Research's objectives are: To develop appropriate agricultural technologies for improved and sustainable agriculture, To transfer relevant scientific knowledge and information to all stakeholders for sustainable development of agriculture, To provide laboratory, phytosanitary, quarantine, consultancy and other relevant services to all stakeholders.
