Expedicionarios da Saude (EDS)

Expedicionários da Saúde is a Brazilian non-profit organization created in 2003 by a group of volunteer doctors willing to take specialized medicine, primarily surgical care, to isolated regions favoring indigenous populations. It is a complementary service to the existing programs of indigenous health care and aims to avoid the need to travel, costly and traumatic, from the patient and his family to urban centers. The work is made possible through partnerships with local actors and institutions for diagnosis and pre-selection of patients, travel planning for the medical team and use of their Mobile Surgical Center. In addition to the work of volunteer doctors, Expedicionários da Saúde counts on the support of other professionals who help to make the institution viable. Partnering with companies in the form of financial, service and material donations is what has made the project viable.
