Mission
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Sarajevo inherits a tradition of successful work and development for 62 years. Since its inception, our mission has been to ensure a high standard of excellence in veterinary and biomedical education, research in the biomedical sciences and the achievement of first-class standards in the treatment, welfare and health of animals, animal production and food safety.
We accomplish our mission through the following groups of activities:
I. Teaching and Continuing Education The Faculty provides, continuously promotes and implements comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate studies that enable the construction of first-class personnel for veterinary, animal husbandry and economics purposes.
a) In the area of undergraduate studies, the Faculty and students will actively cooperate with the aim of building a strong community that will:
• educate students in high-quality veterinary doctors responsible for the needs of BiH, the environment and the EU,
• enable students to express their particularities and critical thinking,
• prepare students for lifelong learning,
• introduce students to new technologies and systems and,
• Facilitate the integration of basic science with clinical and paraclinical disciplines
b) In the field of postgraduate studies, the Faculty will provide a number of specific postgraduate programs, tailored to the interests of students and the needs of the specific community.
II. Science, knowledge and technology transfer
During the educational process, the Faculty will provide systems through which students will be able to understand scientific methods and their applications in clinical practice and in scientific research. The Faculty is obliged to carry out well-planned biomedical research aimed at promoting animal health and welfare, food safety, environmental protection and production.
III. Faculty clinics and diagnostic laboratories
Faculty departments related to clinical disciplines and diagnostic laboratories are an integral part of the academic unit, providing the highest level of animal prevention and treatment, providing highly standardized and internationally comparable laboratory diagnostics for animal diseases and food safety.
IV. Internationalization, mobility and cooperation
Recognizing the fact that the Sarajevo Veterinary Faculty is the only Veterinary Faculty in Bosnia and Herzegovina, our focus on the internationalization of education, science and mobility of students and teachers is a constant commitment and a continuous goal. Cooperation within BiH, international cooperation, inter and transdisciplinary approaches and professional, social and economic networking are of particular interest to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Sarajevo.
V. Quality management and quality assurance
An external evaluation of higher education institutions and study programs was introduced into the European Higher Education Area following the Bologna reforms and further developing this concept. The 2005 Berlin Communiqué concluded that all countries had prepared preparations for a quality assurance system based on agreed criteria with a high degree of cooperation and networking. The standards and guidelines for quality assurance (ESG) in the European Higher Education Area, as proposed by the European Network of Quality Assurance Agencies (ENQA), have been adopted and, following the Framework Law on Higher Education and the acts of the Higher Education and Quality Assurance Agency of BiH, and for HEIs in BiH. Furthermore, the faculty, as a member of the European Association of Veterinary Colleges (EAEVE), wants to carry out external evaluation and accreditation.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, legal preconditions for the implementation of the Bologna reforms were created only after the adoption of the Framework Law on Higher Education (2007), and the national Agency for Higher Education Development and Quality Assurance was established at the end of 2008. The criteria for institutional accreditation have been adopted, and according to the current law, the holder of the institutional accreditation is the University of Sarajevo, which is obliged to make a self-evaluation report and apply for institutional accreditation according to the competent ministry. This concept is quite complex given that the existing legal and regulatory solutions treat the accreditation of an integrated HEI.
VI. Staff and organization
Sarajevo University School of Veterinary Medicine, as a member of the University of Sarajevo, will treat its employees with respect, support individual talents and expect superior staff results in achieving its Vision. In line with the promoted overall values of university staff - competence, commitment and responsibility - we strive to motivate staff and support ongoing innovation and improvement.
Faculty organization through organizational units and their department components ensures good communication, rational and optimal use of resources, implementation of strategic and operational plans in an effective and efficient manner in order to achieve the key goals set out in the "Mission" Faculty will:
