The Far East BRT Planning Company Limited, or Far East BRT, is a Hong Kong registered company set up in 2015 to further this mission. Far East BRT focuses on the planning, design and implementation of urban corridors centred on high quality, high capacity Bus Rapid Transit systems.
Far East BRT’s team of key experts including Karl Fjellstrom, Xiaomei Duan and Wenxuan Ma led the planning, design and implementaton of Asia’s two 'Gold Standard' BRT systems in Guangzhou and Yichang, working for the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) and GMEDRI.
Far East BRT has expertise working on urban ‘corridors’, consisting of the BRT roadways and stations as well as the BRT station areas. BRT station area and corridor development extends to many areas of sustainable urban transport planning and policy including parking, pedestrian & bicycle facilities, and transit-oriented development.
Key areas of work usually include: surveys and data collection; difficult point analysis; corridor determination; cross-sections, and road layout for public transport corridors; demand analysis & modelling; operational planning; BRT stations; renderings; ITS and vehicles; business, institutional, regulatory, and industry transition issues; training and capacity building; communications and outreach; costing & implementation schedule; modal integration; traffic circulation improvements; and input to bid documents. Often the work is packaged as a BRT Conceptual Design which includes most or all of these components.
