GAIA SpA is a company with public capital that from 1 January 2005 manages the Integrated Water Service in accordance with the Convention stipulated with the former Area Authority No. 1, today AIT (Tuscany Water Authority) Territorial Conference No. 1 “Tuscany North".
The Integrated Water Service being managed consists of all the public services for the collection, supply and distribution of water and sewage and purification of waste water, as well as the disposal of residual sludge, as required by current legislation.
GAIA manages water services in a territory that includes most of the Municipalities of the Province of Lucca (Garfagnana, Media Valle del Serchio, Versilia), three Municipalities of the Val di Lima in the Province of Pistoia and the Municipalities of the Province of Massa (except Zeri).
The area covers 46 Municipalities , for a total of 2,594 square kilometers, in which there are 430 thousand inhabitants (Istat 2014 data) and about 254.014 Users.
The aqueduct network has a total length of about 5,200 km and the sewage network is around 2,000 km, while the active purification plants are 493.
GAIA manages the entrusted service, the infrastructures and the utilities, with a number of employees equal to 482 (data 2018), including the operational and clerical staff of the technical, administrative and commercial sectors.
