Since its inception in 1969, Holland College has been committed to providing the best quality programs and services to its clients. With the move to attain ISO 9001 certification in 1998, the college moved to the forefront of Canadian community colleges, and in 1999 became one of only three Canadian community colleges to have achieved this internationally recognized designation.
The ISO standard describes a ‘Quality Management System’ as: “a management system designed to direct and control an organization with regard to quality.”
The college’s Quality Management System, or QMS, is guided by the principles and beliefs expressed in college’s Board Policy 60-04,Quality Policy and Statement of Mission & Beliefs, established by the college’s Board of Governors and Management Executive Committee.
The scope of the college’s QMS is the design and delivery of education and training to students including support services.
This means that all aspects of the college’s operations, including support services, that directly or indirectly relate to education and training are part of the college’s QMS, and therefore subject to evaluation and review. The effectiveness of the Quality Management System is monitored through a process of internal auditing, client feedback, and the analysis of that feedback and management review. Feedback from staff, who are integral in the application of the various components of the QMS, alerts the Quality Coordinator to potential problems and appropriate and timely revisions are made to correct the deficiency. Areas of nonconformance are addressed by raising corrective action requests and areas of potential nonconformance are addressed by initiating a preventive action request.
