I(dh)eas, Strategic Human Rights Litigation, is a non-profit organization founded on May 2009, whose goal is to defend and promote Human Rights at the national, regional and international levels.
It seeks to contribute to the building of a Democratic State and of the Rule of law in Mexico, as well as to foster a human rights culture guided by the principles of transparency, gender equality, diversity, legality and justice.
I(dh)eas is an organization specialized in the documentation of human rights violations, legal assistance and victim empowerment. It is moreover a reference in the strategic litigation of paradigmatic cases of human rights violations at the national, regional and international levels.
I(dh)eas’ work consist in monitoring, analyzing, investigating, documenting, communicating, disseminating, and training as regards strategic litigation and human rights. These are fundamental and necessary tasks to foster the full observance and implementation of basic legal principles in Mexico. Likewise, i(dh)eas provides technical assistance to civil society organizations, particularly those which are not familiar with legal defense strategies.
The work of litigation is fundamental in order to favor the changes needed in the country as regards human rights while incorporating the highest standards of rights protection given by International Human Rights Law.
Thus, by focusing on the international obligations of the Mexican State, it is possible to render visible the patterns that favor or allow human rights violations, as well as to propose alternative solutions for social change and access to justice, directed more specifically at the most disadvantaged groups within the society in order to ensure the full observance and implementation of their rights and the enforcement of a democratic Rule of law. Besides, the national, regional and international human rights strategic litigation promotes democratic practices such as accountability that can be achieved through transparency and public authority efficiency.
Throughout its existence, i(dh)eas has documented numerous cases of human rights violations, and more specifically the ones of vulnerable persons, such as migrants, women and children.
In order to achieve its goals, i(dh)eas establishes alliances and works jointly with victims of human rights violations as well as human rights national and international civil society organizations, universities and judicial officials.
