The Institute of Strategic Studies is an autonomous non-profit research organization devoted to provide an in-depth understanding and objective analyses of regional and global strategic issues, affecting international peace and security.
The purpose of the ISSI is to generate awareness of Pakistan's strategic and security concerns regarding regional and international issues in the light of changing patterns of international relations.
China Study Centre
The Institute established a dedicated China Study Centre at its premises in January 2007. The centre will be solely responsible for intensive research on China and the issues that impinge on Pakistan-China relations. At this initial stage, the centre has one Director and five Research Scholars. The centre is presently in the process of building up its research database as well as plans for sending a few of these scholars for language sources to China for a firsthand experience of Chinese Politics, society and culture. The Centre has also started a fortnightly series of China Brief that covers important developments concerning China and the world, for consumption by academic institutions and officials dealing with China.
Library
Institute library has an outstanding collection of more than 14,000 books covering vast areas, topics and interest including international relations, security issues, politics, culture, economics, strategy, wars, current history, and defence. The library in addition holds regular subscription to over 70 national and international journals. Moreover, the institute also has active subscription to online/electronic versions of international journals. The library also has an updated collection of national and international reports and surveys. It holds a vast collection of biographies, historical papers and encyclopaedias. Library also keeps audio records of the seminars / conferences and public talks which take place in the institute.
