Inyathelo - the South African Institute for Advancement – strives to build an enduring culture of philanthropy which results in a strong and stable civil society and democracy in South Africa. The organisation offers resources, training and capacity building to nonprofit organisations, particular in relation to fundraising, organisational governance and their overall long-term sustainability. Inyathelo also aims to increase corporate and individual social giving through promoting dialogue, sharing information, and providing support services to facilitate sustainable philanthropic ventures that have lasting impact.
Advancement is a multi-faceted approach to the financial sustainability of institutions and organisations. When referring to Advancement, we refer to the structures, processes and approaches to engaging with the external environment and to position an organisation to attract investment and support.
WHAT WE DO
Inyathelo assists institutions and organisations to develop a professional approach to raising the donor investment required to advance their objectives.
While assisting in building skills to access giving, the Institute also promotes social responsibility, personal philanthropy, and effective grantmaking.
We promote a strategic approach to development in South Africa, seeing donors and funding recipients as partners.
The Inyathelo Resource and Training Centre
The Centre is the base from which we deliver on the core work of the Institute, namely training and capacity development related to institutional Advancement and leadership development. A well-stocked library provides research opportunities for those interested in Advancement, Development, fundraising, philanthropy and grantmaking.
Training and Resources
Our training programmes are aimed at growing capacity within organisations and institutions to position themselves to build relationships with external stakeholders in order to attract resources and social investment. We also focus on the development of effective grantmaking approaches as one way of ensuring the sustainability of civil society organisations and long-term impact on positive social development.
Promotion of a Culture of Giving
While working with organisations to develop their ability and attract support, the Institute promotes social responsibility, personal philanthropy, voluntarism and self-reliance. The work of the Institute is rooted in an approach that encourages long-term partnerships between social investors and the institutional and nonprofit sectors.
