The Lithuanian Fund for Nature (LFN) is a non-governmental organization for the conservation of nature. Its activities are closely related to the preservation of wildlife. Founded in 1991, right after the reestablishment of Lithuania’s independence from the Soviet Union, the LFN is one of the first conservation organizations in Lithuania. The LFN’s activities include cooperation with national, municipal, scientific, non-governmental, and private institutions in these areas: Preservation of rare and disappearing species and their habitats, Preservation of rare and disappearing species and their habitats, Maintenance and restoration of natural habitats, Preservation of water bodies and resources therein, and Environmental education. The Lithuanian Fund for Nature operates as both an aid organization and a charity. At the top of the Fund’s management is the meeting of its founders, which is held at least once a year. It elects a board consisting of eleven members. In between the founders’ meetings, the board is in charge of the Fund’s activities. It approves aid programs and elects an administrative head (Acting Director) and a finance manager. The Director is in charge of the Fund’s administration, enforces its policies, represents the Fund in other organizations, and coordinates various programs and projects.
