Lucie’s Place is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in Little Rock working with and assisting LGBT young adults experiencing homelessness in Central Arkansas. Lucie’s Place runs a drop-in center in the heart of downtown Little Rock, where LGBT young adults receive assistance with bus passes, cell phones & minutes, toiletries, clothes, referrals to other programs and case management. Individuals are able to utilize the drop-in center to work on job applications, resumes, continuing education, or as a place to hang out during the day when they have nowhere else to go. For many, this center is the only physical place in town where they can go without fear of discrimination, harassment or violence.
Lucie’s Place also has a four bed home for LGBT young adults experiencing homelessness. Residents live in this home (free of charge) and work on developing the skills necessary for their future independence. These skills include job readiness, money management, cooking and up keeping a living space. For many of us, their parents or guardians taught us these skills. Unfortunately, a majority of Lucie's Place residents did not come from stable households and these skills were never taught. They learn these skills (and many others) in this safe, affirming home. Once residents obtain employment, they make regular deposits into their savings account. Upon leaving the home, residents will have the savings necessary to move into their own living situation and pay the appropriate deposits, utilities, rent, etc. At this point, they will be able to live as stable, independent adults, for the first time in their lives.
Lucie's Place is community funded and relies on this amazing community for support!
