The "skills" of a non-governmental organization dealing with media issues and freedom of opinion and expression was founded by a group of Lebanese journalists, who share a common aspiration for a free press and a democratic society.
Maharat considers that the establishment of the concept of peace can be achieved only through democracy, which was violated in Lebanon in times of peace and war. The Foundation monitors the reality of freedoms in Lebanon and publishes studies on the media and its performance in order to activate its role and rationalize its orientation.
Maharat is concerned with developing media laws, qualifying media professionals, and preparing training courses in the various professions' specializations. It is a member of the international network for the free exchange of information, which includes about 80 organizations concerned with freedom of expression around the world. Maharat has a number of local, regional and international partners, including official and private institutions and universities. See more
