Mattersburger Kreis fur Entwicklungspolitik
The Mattersburger Kreis, founded in 1981, sees itself as an umbrella organization for development policy research and teaching at Austrian universities. It has set itself the goal of assuming an intermediary position between science, research and university teaching and the area of development policy practice. His activities contribute to better networking, an intensification of knowledge transfer, a lively culture of debate and, subsequently, an improvement in cooperation between science and practice.
These are also the goals of the Paulo Freire Center, which has resettled in the Mattersburger Kreis since early 2015. As the "folk arm" of the Mattersburg district, it conducts development policy education work inspired by Paulo Freire, which reflects and deals with world problems in connection with on-site problems. As a science-based institution, the Freire Center offers interested and (self-) critical people space for the necessary critical reflection on their work. At the heart of the referrals is again and again in Freire's sense the question of education and politics, and thus of inequalities and development, conflicts and mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion. This is particularly evident in our joint event, the Austrian Development Conference, which has been held every 2-3 years since 2001.See more
