Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources (Gambia)
The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change & Natural Resources (MECCNAR) is one of the key Ministries within the Gambia Government set-up. The Ministry is the policy body charged with the task of managing and conserving the environment, whilst promoting the rational use of our natural resources and ecological heritage for the benefit of present and future generation.
Gambia’s environment and natural resources basis are sustainably managed and protected as a contribution to the social and economic wellbeing of its people and reduces the impacts of climate change.
- To promote long-term environmental sustainability through collaborative planning, public awareness campaigns and capacity building of stakeholders.
- To mainstream climate change into the economic development process and promote food security for the Gambia by provision of timely and accurate climate information.
- To promote biodiversity conservation by increasing terrestrial, inland water, coastal and marine protected areas and strengthen management effectiveness of existing and planned PAs.
