Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (El Salvador)
The beginning of roads in the history of El Salvador, dating from 1528, date on which the Villa de San Salvador was founded by the Spaniards, on which it took fifteen days to trace the streets, plaza and church, then the streets of the different towns were only of land and the main reinforced of stone, since the transport vehicle used were the carts or horses.
The modernization of the transport infrastructure that began with the railroads could also be seen in the main cities of San Salvador and Santa Ana. The carts and carriages that took people from one point of the city to another were replaced first by trams of animal traction and then by electric trams. Already in the 1920s the main streets of San Salvador were paved, and the improvement of the streets was also due to another fundamental consideration: the arrival of the car there by 1915 and, a few years later, the truck and the bus.
Since then the growth of urban and interurban road infrastructure has been increasing rapidly, according to the expansion of industrial centers, production, services as well as residential, proof of this is the expansion of the "urban spot" In the city of San Salvador, which has always been considered the main source of economic growth in the country, this generates a demand for services, especially communication and transportation, since without them you cannot achieve product mobility for your marketing, in addition to directly influencing the costs of the items through the amounts for production.See more
