Organización de Mujeres Indígenas Amazónicas Wanaaleru

Wanaaleru is an indigenous grassroots organization that promotes the empowerment of indigenous women, in late contribute to the eradication of patriarchy and decolonization. For the organization, empower is to encourage others find the strength to change unjust situations which, for reasons of gender, ethnicity and class, oppressing the people. Its commitment is to building an inclusive world where intercultural gender equality is respected. It argues that empowerment must be promoted by and from people as indigenous, strengthening together the demands, plans and projects. The organization is composed by indigenous women, with a long history in the struggle for collective, specific and historical Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Its general coordinator is also Vice-coordinator of the Regional Organization of Indigenous Peoples of Amazonas (ORPIA). It has members distributed throughout the Amazon state, municipal and regional affiliates of mixed indigenous organizations.
