Perkumpulan Keluarga Berencana Indonesia (PKBI)
Established on December 23, 1957, the Indonesian Family Planning Association (PKBI) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which spearheaded the Family Planning movement in Indonesia. The birth of PKBI was motivated by the concerns of the founders of PKBI, which consisted of a group of community leaders and health experts on various population problems and the high maternal mortality rate in Indonesia.
In the 1950s the idea of family planning (KB) faced severe challenges. Most people and academics tend to see family planning as an effort to limit pregnancy, which at that time was considered as something that was considered as a form of deprivation of liberty that had just been enjoyed by the Indonesian people.
