In 2015, at the presentation of the book "POLO Architects", the architects Poponcini & Lootens ir. Architects decided to cook his name to POLO Architects.
The duo Mauro Poponcini & Patrick Lootens has today grown into an architectural firm with more than 70 employees with assignments throughout Belgium and beyond: a solid office with a lot of knowledge, construction skills and experience. But also and above all a wonderful collective of young and older employees, 25 years of experience and swagger, a nursery for upcoming talent, where everyone can develop and grow. The offices in Antwerp & Brussels are real workshops, stimulating free places of professional play.
POLO Architects also seeks out more boundaries in the type of projects and spreads its wings: the architects increasingly delve deeper into urban development issues, focus on master planning and on strategic reflection on spatial planning. In addition, the office is increasingly focusing on smaller assignments in the cultural or social sector. These designs show how smaller but carefully designed buildings nourish the office intellectually and make designers grow. The unfolding of a cell interior illustrates this interdisciplinary approach.
POLO Architects is an amalgam: a creative barrel full of contradictions, in which both large projects (commercial, private, public) have a place as well as the (minor) exceptions, and where design power, creativity and reflection predominate. The office for urban planning, architecture & interior design is familiar with the most diverse scales and programs - from location development, master planning, schools, university buildings, hospitals, cultural centers, industrial buildings, (head) offices, commercial buildings, housing in all shapes and sizes, interior projects and scenography, both new construction and renovation: with virtually everything from city to chair. It expressly aspires to engage and fully embrace the experiment.
POLO Architects sees the diversity of assignments as a given that is at the same time familiar and a real challenge - as a call to change the boundaries as designers, to give the best, while at the same time showcasing expertise and experience.
