Redearth Education is a small charity bringing quality education to every boy and girl child in rural Uganda.
Redearth Education is a charity and Ugandan NGO working to create a future in which every child has an equal chance in life. Over the last 10 years, they have brought high quality education to 132 government schools in rural Uganda, reaching over 65,000 young children.
Up to 80% of children in Uganda drop out of school by the age of 12. Their teachers face few opportunities for professional development and training, as well as little access to resources. As a result, they are unable to meet the needs of today's classrooms and their pupils fail to master basic competencies, such as literacy and numeracy.
Together with local officials and local schools, they help build the skills, motivation and confidence of rural teachers, enabling them to meet the needs of every child in their class so that they can succeed and progress through school.
They believe that every child should have the opportunity to thrive in school, so that they can reach their full potential, better their life chances and make a positive, lifelong contribution to their communities.
To achieve this, they empower and enable primary school teachers in western Uganda through ongoing support and continuing professional development training. Together with local officials and schools, they help build the skills, motivation and confidence of rural teachers, enabling them to meet the needs of every child in their class so that they can succeed and progress through school.
They work at grass-root levels in western Uganda to address the root causes of poor learning outcomes and high drop out rates.
The education programmes provide a sustainable solution by building capacity within local teaching communities to enable strategic change in rural schools, improve the quality of education and increase primary retention and completion rates.
The training focuses on the building of positive relationships between pupil and teacher. They help develop the motivation, skills and confidence of teachers, using interactive, engaging methodologies which encourage and motivate pupils.
They believe that working in partnership with the local education office is the best means to realise sustainable change that is responsive to local conditions.
Redearth's Directors have been training primary teachers in Masindi since 2004 and reside permanently within the local community. They work hand-in-hand with the Masindi District and Municipal Departments of Education, local teachers and a small team of Ugandan staff.
The programmes do not only set out to train the course attendee, but train and equip alumni to become trainers and mentors of their colleagues once they have returned to their own rural schools.
By empowering Ugandan teachers with the skills they need to train and support other teachers, they can ensure that this knowledge is firmly rooted within local teaching communities.See more
