Refugee Women's Alliance (ReWa)
About

ReWA is a non-profit, multi-ethnic organization that promotes inclusion, independence, personal leadership, and strong communities by providing refugee and immigrant women and their families with culturally and linguistically appropriate services. ReWA advocates for social justice, public policy changes, and equal access to services while respecting cultural values and the right to self-determination.

Refugee Women’s Alliance (ReWA) is an award-winning, nationally recognized nonprofit that provides holistic services to help refugee and immigrant women and families thrive. In 32 years of work with multi-cultural communities, they have refined services to most effectively promote integration and self-sufficiency. All of the services are designed to quickly and effectively stabilize clients, promote acculturation, increase language proficiency, and improve employability.

The services are available in over 50 languages and dialects. This means clients are paired with professionals who speak their first language and are specifically attuned to their native cultures. Because of this, staff are able to address the unique barriers to success that each of the clients face.

The local refugee and immigrant community sees ReWA as a home-base, where they can overcome the barriers they face, connect with opportunities, and network with one another. Because community members feel safe and supported, ReWA has a positive and far-reaching reputation. Immigrant and refugee residents are familiar with programs, and readily refer their friends, family and new arrivals in their communities. The reputation goes a long way toward increasing program accessibility for local and newly arrived immigrant and refugee residents.

ReWA has helped refugee and immigrant women and families thrive since 1985.

A group of successfully resettled women founded ReWA, formerly known as Southeast Asian Women’s Alliance (SEAWA), to provide newly arrived women with the services that were not available from other agencies.

From a small, informal alliance of concerned refugee women, ReWA has grown to become one of the largest non-profit refugee and immigrant service providers in the Puget Sound area. The programs respond to the complex needs of refugees and immigrants with the primary goal of making a positive and long-lasting impact on their lives.

ReWA has a broad base of funding, including federal and local governments, United Way, private foundations, and corporations. Individual donors who give generously in support of ReWA’s service to the community play a vital role in the continued success.
