Reltex was actively involved in the design and implementation of the new UN specified plastic sheeting as validated by the International Technical Committee (ITC). The ITC consists of members from the UNHCR, IFRC, ICRC, Oxfam, UNICEF, MSF, CARE and Concern.
The main objective of the ITC was to evaluate plastic sheeting and tarpaulins that were being utilised at the time. Many of the organisations felt that the sheeting and tarpaulins available were not offering real value for money. As a result, in 1994 the ITC embarked on a series of tests to determine strength, UV protection and useful life of the various sheeting and tarpaulins on the market. Product samples were submitted and tested over a 3 year period. These tests resulted in the creation of a new material, the specifications of which, are the standard for the Reltex sheeting.
Reltex was the first company to be validated by the ITC and was also the first company to produce the product to those rigid specifications.
Reltex Plastic Sheeting and Tarpaulins are manufactured to the highest standards and meet or exceed the specifications established by the International Technical Committee (ITC), a consortium made up of members from the UNHCR, UNICEF, ICRC, IFRC, OXFAM, MSF and other NGOs. This group was formed to standardise the specifications of the most commonly used relief items to ensure a consistent level of quality.
Reltex sheeting and tarpaulins are regularly tested and validated by a recognised laboratory to ensure that their sheeting continues to meet the high standards which have been set by the ITC. Their sheeting can be printed with their customer's logo and customised to match their corporate colours all under the inspection of their quality control teams.
In addition, their blow moulding plant produces high quality buckets and collapsible jerry cans, which can also be produced to match their client's own colour schemes.
Their finishing department is equipped with welding and sewing facilities so they can produce bags, covers and other fabricaed requests to package the goods or kits in, according to their clients' specifications.
