Since 1982, Sacramento Tree Foundation has been building partnerships and empowering communities to envision the best places to live and invest in their urban forest. They do this by educating, advocating and lending support for tree plantings. The Sacramento Tree Foundation relies on private-public partnerships
to enable its success. The core staff made up of dedicated and passionate individuals work hand-in-hand with a committed Board of Directors
, an unmatched Technical Advisory Commitee
, and many business and civic partners.
The Sacramento Tree Foundation envisions a time when tree canopy considerations are an integral part of the development and improvement of all neighborhoods throughout the greater Sacramento region. They are dedicated to reaching the widest audience possible in order to share the many linkages between an abundant, healthy urban forest and the quality of life in the region and the planet.
Neighborhoods with abundant tree canopy have a powerful impact on air quality, climate change, energy conservation, water quality, economy, comfort, habitat, and public health. Only by achieving maximum tree cover throughout the region can they capture and optimize the remarkable benefits of trees.
The regional framework to grow and manage the best urban forest, called Greenprint, will continue to guide the growth of, and investments in, urban forest initiatives. They will make great strides in achieving the goal to plant and steward 5 million new trees region-wide. One million of these trees are targeted for under-resourced, low tree canopy neighborhoods. Four million trees are targeted for the development community to meet the needs of the anticipated 290,000 new homes and neighborhoods in the region by 2035.
