Same Skies has been founded under Swiss law in 2014. Since then, Same Skies have also established legal entities in Australia and in Malaysia. The organization is an international team of passionate humanitarian professionals, who support displaced communities of refugees and asylum seekers, while they await the processing of their refugee claims and resettlement to a third country. Same Skies' work is guided by independent board members in Switzerland, Australia and Malaysia. The international board is chaired by Ms Phd Edith Favoreu, the Deputy Director of the Centre of Education and Research in Humanitarian Action (CERAH) in Geneva.
Since refugees are often not allowed to work in transit countries, the skills of many go unutilised while they wait for their new lives to begin. It is their experience that there is an existing base of capacity in every community and they make use of it! They assist displaced communities in the prioritisation of their needs and the mobilisation of their own skills, in order to gain access to basic human rights. They facilitate and strengthen refugee-led groups through organisational capacity-strengthening. Together, they design and plan activities that they can provide for the protection and assistance of other community members, and they help them to implement them in community centres. It is their ideology not to permanently base foreigners in the field, and they try to avoid high resource/high cost activities to prevent dependency, and encourage ownership and durability. Ideally, their support is phased out after self-sustaining changes in the community have been realised. Same Skies designs projects with sustainability and exiting in mind. Therefore, their focus lies on empowerment, training and coaching.See more
