ScienceCounts is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization recently formed with the objective of enhancing the public's awareness of, and support for, federally funded scientific research. They believe the nation's rise to prominence over the last century has been fostered in large part by federally-led efforts to support discovery and innovation across a broad front of scientific disciplines.  The future, however, is uncertain as federal investments in scientific discovery are under increasing pressure and scrutiny, in part because of fiscal policies and in part because of the public's lack of understanding of, and appreciation for, basic research. ScienceCounts envisions an era in which Americans actively support national investments in science and science education in order to enhance job creation, drive economic growth, improve heath care, ensure national security, attain energy independence, foster environmental sustainability, and enhance general quality of life.
