‘The Broker’ is a name used by the Foundation for International Development Publications, founded in 2005.
The Broker is an independent knowledge brokering organization in the field of sustainable international development. They enable organizations and people who are committed to, or have an interest in, worldwide, economic, political and societal development processes to make informed decisions in their work and daily practice. This is done at local, regional, national and international levels. They do not focus on developing countries per se, but on societal processes and development opportunities in locations all over the world. They are an idealistic organization that provides services in a project-based fashion, operating independently from political institutions. In this way, as connectors of knowledge fields and actors, they are committed to enhance policymakers’ and practitioners’ impact on international development, aiming to achieve inclusive and sustainable global societies.
They find knowledge that enables their clients to make informed decisions in the field of international development. They co-create, make knowledge inclusive, and see the potential in knowledge that may remain unused. Through their knowledge brokering activities, they optimize the use of knowledge in the right place, in the best form, at the right moment, with the right people.
Their services are targeted to their client needs. The Broker taps into available scientific insights, as well as the knowledge and experience present within their extensive network of policymakers, scientists and practitioners. They bring this knowledge together, put it into the context and form that suits their client needs, and facilitate processes to make it accessible, shareable and actionable.
Their team of knowledge brokers makes this possible: with their unique profile and experience, they have the skills necessary to make knowledge work for their clients. Their multidisciplinary team constantly sharpens its knowledge brokering methods to constantly improve our services.
