The Canal Welcome Center works with Canal community residents, immigrants and low-income families of Marin County in advancing their social, cultural, and economic well being through self-empowerment programs that encourage participation in the broader civic life of U.S. society.
The Welcome Center’s programming focuses on developing resident leadership and skills to enable low income families and immigrant communities to participate more fully in the broader civic life of our community.
The programs areas of the Welcome Center are designed to meet this goal while addressing the challenges low income families and immigrants experience as they integrate into Marin County and the U.S. society. The three major challenges identified by immigrants of the Canal neighborhood are: loss of cultural identity; difficulty thriving in a second language environment, while experiencing economic instability; and challenges navigating the system to obtain basic family support services(health, social and legal systems.
To respond to these issues, The Welcome Center works in three broad Program Areas: Arts & Culture, Leadership and Economic Development, and Social, and Restorative and Environmental Justice
