The Ramblers is a charity whose goal is to protect the ability of people to enjoy the sense of freedom and benefits that come from being outdoors on foot. They’re an association of people and groups who come together to both enjoy walking and other outdoor pursuits and also to ensure that they protect and expand the infrastructure and places people go walking. To this day most of their work is done by members who volunteer their time. They have dramatically increased the ability of the public to access the countryside: In 2000 through the Countryside and Rights of Way Act they gained access to 865,000 hectares of land where in England and Wales where the public can access the countryside without depending on a footpath In 2003 through the Land Reform Act they secured responsible access over most areas of land and water in Scotland In 2009, the public won the right to walk along the entire coast of England which will give access to some of the wildest and most dramatic landscapes in England In 2012 the Welsh Coast Path opened
