The University of Pamplona was born in 1960, as a private institution, under the leadership of Presbítero José Faría Bermúdez. In 1970 it was converted into a Public University of the departmental order, by decree No. 0553 of August 5, 1970 and in 1971 the Ministry of National Education authorized it to grant professional titles according to Decree No. 1550 of August 13
During the sixties and seventies, the University grew in the line of training of graduates, in most of the areas that should be served in the education system: Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Social Sciences, Pedagogy, Educational Administration, Languages Foreigners, Spanish - Literature and Physical Education.
In the eighties the Institution made the leap towards professional training in other fields of knowledge, a stage that began at the end of that decade with the Food Technology Program.
Later in the nineties were created in the fields of Natural Sciences and Technology, Microbiology Programs with an emphasis on Food, Food Engineering and Electronics and Technology in Environmental Sanitation. In the field of Socioeconomic Sciences, the Systems Administration program, initially as technology and then at a professional level.
Today, the University has significantly expanded its educational offer, meeting new demands for professional training, generated in the region or in the evolution of science, art, technology and the humanities. It fulfills this task from all levels of Higher Education: undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education, and in all educational modalities: face-to-face, distance learning and virtual support; which has allowed it to be projected both in its territory and in several regions of Colombia and the West of our neighboring country and brother Venezuela.
This work is developed thanks to a team of highly trained professionals in the best universities in the country and abroad, at the level of specializations, masters and doctorates, and an efficient administrative management. In turn, the process of growth and qualification of the University has been accompanied by the construction of a modern physical plant, with large and comfortable spaces for academic work, organized in an environment of coexistence with nature; the same with the provision of laboratories and modern communication and information systems, which today give it comparative advantages in the fulfillment of its Mission.
The Institutional Project of the University, its navigation chart, expresses the open and democratic spirit that characterizes it, and its commitment to regional and national development; the same, in its strategies the organizational, administrative and operational dynamics are projected through which it achieves efficiency in the fulfillment of its academic, social and productive purposes.
In accordance with Law 30 of 1992, the University of Pamplona is identified as a special regime entity, with administrative, academic, financial autonomy, independent patrimony, legal personality and belonging to the Ministry of National Education.
