The University was created in 2006, by order of the Council of Ministers, and began the installation process in 2007. At this stage were created some of the Central Services of the Rectory and its first faculty, the Faculty of Health Sciences. On 29 June of the same year was held the Inaugural Ceremony of the University Lúrio. This was presided by His Excellency The President of the Republic of Mozambique, Armando Guebuza, and was attended by, among other individuals, the Minister of Education, Aires Aly.
In its organic structure, Lúrio University predicted from the beginning the installation of three poles located in the three provinces of northern Mozambique, namely: Nampula, Niassa and Cabo Delgado.
UniLúrio's mission is to "educate and train a new generation of competent professionals committed to the development, science and well-being of local communities."
UniLúrio has as vision "to provide a Higher Education of Excellence, Quality, Competitiveness and International Recognition".
