About Foundations in Learning

Foundations in Learning, renowned for its innovative WordFlight program, offers scientifically based, empirically derived reading solutions for elementary and middle school students. It utilizes the latest learning science to advance both the science of reading and reading instruction practices.

Their History

2009 – 2014:

• Established Foundations in Learning to make reading accessible for all children.
• Formed a research and development team to identify why many students were not reading at grade level.
• Discovered that automatic word recognition was the missing link for about a third of students in the U.S.
• Tested and validated the Varied Practice Model from cognitive science for reading skill development.

2015 – 2021:

• Received support from the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) to develop and validate online assessment tools.
• Continuously refined solutions through partnerships with schools and 15,000 students.
• Granted a patent for the diagnostic assessment.
• Integrated assessment and practice into a single platform.

2021 – Today:

• Launched WordFlight.
• Nominated as a finalist for the 2023 SIIA Innovation Showcase
