Achiri Arnold Nji is an Electrical Engineer from Polytechnique Yaounde . He is a recipient of numerous awards and recognitions in his effort to design and improve road safety and emergency response systems in Cameroon.
Arnold’s Innovation; the ‘Traveler information System’ uses sensor fusion technology to transform mobile phones into detectors of car crashes and the performance of drivers as they drive on the road, with the objective to change driving habits, and reduce road accidents which are responsible for 40% of all deaths recorded within a year in Cameroon. Traveler uses mobile phones available and accessible to everyone; uses big data and machine learning to model driving in real time and help drivers; provides short predictions on risks of accidents to drivers; works with or without an internet connection; detects accidents, establishes their severity and sends a distress signal to ambulance services. Achiri’s innovation has managed to change the paradigm in Cameroon and his solution is currently being deployed in partnership with the ministry of transport of Cameroon
