I am a development economist with over 20 years of professional experience working for governments and international development agencies in Africa, Middle East, Asia/ Pacific and former Eastern Europe. I was an Economic Advisor and Senior Economic Advisor at the UK's Department for International Development (DfID) from 2004 - 2015. Before that I was a Research Officer at the Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE) at Oxford University for 5 years. I have worked on reform programmes in the areas of investment promotion, private sector development, regional economic integration, public financial management, tax policy and expenditure reviews in a number of developing countries. My applied research work focused on productivity, investment and survival in the manufacturing sectors of several African countries using firm-level panel datasets collected by CSAE. I have also worked on the appraisal, design and evaluation of aid programmes including general budget support programmes in Mozambique, Zambia, Tanzania and other countries in the African region. I have undertaken secondments to the World Bank (2004) and the European Commission (2012-13) and a range of consultancy assignments for DFID, USAID, GIZ, AsDB and the World Bank. I am now an independent development economist and evaluation expert.
