Professional Bio - Dr. Alfred Mapiki is a Zambian national with earned university degree in agriculture. He is an accomplished agronomist and soil scientist with over 30 years’ post-qualification professional work experience in both public and in development-aid environments.Dr Mapiki served in public service, Ministry of Agriculture, Zambia, first as Crop Husbandry Extension Officer and later, as Soil Specialist at Zambia Agricultural Research Institute (ZARI) progressively rising to Chief Agricultural Research Officer responsible for the Soil and Water Management Division. His responsibilities at ZARI included Leading research teams, Policy planning and resource mobilization, Agricultural sector investment programming, Facilitating World Bank project formulation and design missions and Establishing and building partnerships and networks with UN agencies and CGIAR institutions.Dr Mapiki has 20+ years in development cooperation support projects, particularly in the Agriculture & Food Security, Rural Development, Land and Water Sectors. He has served as Soil Specialist and Coordinator, NORAD-ZAM014 Project in northern Zambia; as World Bank Consultant/ Agriculture Expert to Gwembe-Tonga Development and Rehabilitation Project Credit No. 3014.ZM; as Agricultural Technical Adviser, Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Directorate of SADC; and as independent Rural Development consultant.Dr Mapiki has strong hands-on experience of agricultural development assistance projects from design to implementation, supervision, review and monitoring and evaluation. He has the ability to design, manage and deliver high quality outputs on time. He has successfully carried out Identification, Formulation/Scoping, Design/Programming missions for World Bank, African Development Bank, EU, DfID (UK) and CAADP processes. He has facilitated World Bank and EU supervisory missions and reviews, including participation in project reviews financed by AusAID and CIDA. He has reviewed WB-APPSA project proposals, EU Works Tender Technical Specifications, bids for road rehabilitation works and proposals for road designs and construction supervision.Dr Mapiki has excellent negotiation, diplomacy and lobbying skills. He has the ability to engage beneficiaries, senior government officials, development partners, donors, NGOs and private sector. He maintained continued dialogue, engaging senior government officials and ministers in approving regional initiatives (CAADP processes, SADC MAPP, CCARDESA establishment, Climate Smart Agriculture Programme). He also actively engaged World Bank and development partners in supporting national programmes in Zambia and Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) for SADC MAPP and CCARDESA.
