Environmental Lawyer, Land Tenure and Property Rights, Mediation & Capacity Development for Resilience and Sustainable Development

Lawyer Specialist in Land Tenure and Property Rights (including commons systems on land) as well as on mediation on conflict over land and natural resources. I hold a PhD in Law from Birkbeck, University of London, a LLM from the London School of Economics and an LLB from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. I have more than 17 years of valuable experience and a unique combination of strong expertise as an evaluator, researcher, project manager, assessor and facilitator. These abilities include mediation for conflict transformation, project design for the sustainable management of natural resources, knowledge for the implementation of safeguards policies (environmental & social framework), design and facilitation for capacity development on strategies for climate change resilience and adaptation. I have collaborated with International and National Civil Society Organisations, International Organisations, Public Institutions and the Private Sector in Mexico, the UK, Austria and the US. In Mexico, with the former National Indigenous Institute (INI), the Environmental Studies Group-Mexico (GEA), the World Wildlife Found (WWF-MEX) and the National Net against Desertification (RIOD-MEX). In the UK, with the Rain Forest Foundation-UK (RFF-UK) and the UK- all party Parliamentary Group on the Great Lakes Region of Africa. In Austria, with the Sustainable Livelihoods Units of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and in the US with different projects for USAID. Currently, in Mexico I am collaborating with the University of the Environment UMA, where I teach within the Environmental LLM programme and Universidad Ibeoramericana with the design and implementation of the Lab for Trasnformation of socio-environmental conflicts; in the U.S.A, as a fellow researcher for FARMCOMMONS and with the International Monetary Fund as an expert advisor in environmental law and human rights for the Denmark country team, which is responsible to provide policy advice to the Danish authorities. Among the indigenous communities I have worked for are, Nahuas communities in México and Pygmies in DRC. My native language is Spanish but I also speak fluently Danish, Italian, English and in a basic level Sign Language. Due to my personal, educational and professional development I have gained an international and cross-cultural exposure that enables her with the experience to negotiate with various counterparties (governmental authorities, international public organisations the civil society and stakeholders’ communities) at all levels.
