Living, studying and working in three different continents has given me a broad and meaningful global experience which continues to shape my approach to both my work and life. After growing up in Zimbabwe, I took a gap year teaching English in Denmark, and then went on to complete three degrees in Communications and Business in the United States, all while gaining varied work experience in communications, writing, editing, creative design, events, marketing and more. I’m a big believer in pursuing opportunities that scare you a little and every time I’ve climbed on a plane to move to the other side of the world, I’ve had to dig deep. And every time, it’s been one of the best things I’ve done.
I love words. I love the potential and power of well-told stories and creative images to move people and connect them and inform them. I like making things look pretty (even dry business reports and presentations) and find joy in well-presented information. I’m also the person who finds all the spelling and formatting mistakes in the menu/event program/flyer within minutes of sitting down, so it means I’m a pretty useful member on any proofreading or editing team.
I focused my studies on the intersecting role both communications and business can play in meaningful and sustainable international development focusing on local empowerment, conscious capitalism, the bottom of the pyramid markets, cultural agility, and authentic participation. International development is the field where my skills and my heart best meet. During my childhood in Zimbabwe, I witnessed firsthand the poverty and challenges faced by many in the developing world and I’ve had a lifelong desire to be a part of making a meaningful impact in the work I do.
