Angelica is a Chilean human rights lawyer who is currently the Director of Programmes at Sonke Gender Justice. At Sonke, Angelica is interested in deepening the ideological debates and exchange of experiences on promising practices to engage men and boys for gender equality and to prevent gender-based violence and HIV and AIDS, within a feminist framework and human rights based approach. Prior to joining Sonke, Angelica worked for the Heinrich Boell Foundation Southern Africa office, the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation, and Gender Links, managing programmes on gender-based violence. She also worked as editor of a bilingual (English-Spanish) international feminist magazine connecting feminist organisations and individuals globally. Prior to moving to South Africa in 1994, Angelica worked as a lawyer in Chilean NGOs providing counselling and legal advice to women survivors of violence, as well as conducting training and research on women and the law. After the democratisation of the country, Angelica was also the Coordinator of Legal Information Centres in a Legal Aid project at the Ministry of Justice of Chile.
