Ariel W.

United States

As a high school student, I traveled to Thailand to volunteer with a group of like-minded teenagers. The exhausting heat and humidity, relentless mosquitoes, and dietary challenges were far overshadowed by the unique natural beauty I experienced and the friendships I developed. Many of my days were spent "getting my hands dirty" (both literally and figuratively) in beautification, humanitarian, and veterinary initiatives. The challenges and triumphs that I experienced that summer have continued to motivate me to discover and develop opportunities to help others. I could discuss at length the tasks I have completed, research I have supported, and initiatives I have met, but I believe the populations I have worked with have been more influential. My professional and academic roles have allowed me to work with diverse populations including those with refugee status, limited English proficiency, learning disabilities, and chronic health conditions.
