Dr. Azharul H. Mazumder is a qualified environmental scientist with extensive experience in the development, refinement and communication of national-scale environmental policy and field program covering global climate change adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and natural resources management, including water management and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). Dr. Mazumder is currently serving as the Environment and Climate Change Specialist and Natural Resources Management Specialist at the United States Agency for International (USAID) at it’s Bangladesh Mission. From December 2010 to June 2013, he served as the Team Leader of the Environment and Natural Resources Management (E/NRM) Team at USAID/Kenya with a ~$35 million/year portfolio. During 1995-2010, he served at USAID/Bangladesh in the same capacity and was the principal designer of an environmental program in Bangladesh that culminated in a total investment of over $100 million, covering aquatic resources, tropical forest co-management, urban and industrial environment management, climate change, food security and environmental foundation development. Dr. Mazumder helped pioneer co-management of natural resources in Bangladesh. He possesses a detailed and applied knowledge of USAID program development and implementation, and has worked with USAID counterparts on program design issues in Washington, and at regional fora in East Africa and South Asia. He is also intimately familiar with the investment processes of the United Nations (UN) system, Global Environment Facility (GEF), and other bilateral donors and multilateral lending authorities, not least from his multi-year leadership of the environment donor coordination group in Bangladesh. Complementing his programmatic development skills, he is an established thinker and writer, with a Doctorate in Forestry and Resource Management from the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF).
